Mac Pro Release Date: The ‘Most Powerful Mac Ever’ Now On Sale, Shipping By Dec. 30; High-End Workstation Is Assembled In Austin, TX

Mac Pro release date: The desktop unit deemed as the world’s fastest Mac is now on sale at the Apple Store and according to The Verge, the tech giant promises to ship the unit by December 30.

“We have begun manufacturing the Mac Pro in Austin. It’s the most powerful Mac ever. Orders start tomorrow,” tweeted Apple CEO Tim Cook two days ago.

The 2013 Mac Pro, which is the first overhaul of the product line in three years, was described as the Mac you can use “for the next ten years.” The unit is powered with a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon processor, 12 GB of DRAM, Dual FirePro D300 GPUs with 2GB of VRAM each and a 256GB SSD. Apple says that by switching to solid state, the Mac Pro is 10x faster than it would be with a normal hard drive.

Entry-level model for the Mac Pro starts at $2,999. The Verge noted that the Mac Pro is not the average desktop PC you can buy at Best Buy. The unit itself is mainly designed for professionals who need access to speed and storage. During the re-introduction of the unit at the release of the iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C and new iPads, high-profile entertainment and music gave testimonials on the effectiveness and power of the workstation.

The Mac Pro’s design is a big departure from the old Mac Pro design that featured anodized aluminum in a traditional tower casting. The Verge says that the cylindrical housing of the unit is “coffee-maker inspired.”

The new Mac Pro, which is made in the U.S.A, is touted by Apple to be as quiet as a Mac Mini during use.
