Sherlock Season 3 Interview [VIDEO]: Steven Moffat And Mark Gatiss Talk Series 3, Benedict Cumberbatch, And Watson

As fans eagerly await "Sherlock" season 3 on New Year's Day, executive producers Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss took the time to divulge some hints at what's to come.

“If there is a unifying idea to series three, it’s: Sherlock returns to London and life has moved on. He doesn’t ever think it will but life has moved on without him. There’s a continuing idea that runs through it all, that real life sort of flows around him," said Moffat according to Screen Rant.

"One of the advantages of bringing Sherlock into the modern day [is that] in a way it’s less about the time travel, it’s more about him seeing our world and trying to deal with it… I think there are more moments of Sherlock Holmes vs. real life than there have been before.”

In addition, Gatiss talked about bring in new faces to "Sherlock" season 3, like Amanda Abbington as Mary Morsten and Lars Mikkelsen as Charles Augustus Magnussen.

“A lot of the beginnings of our conversations are sort of, ‘What would Sherlock do in this situation?’ [For example] how would he handle being John’s best man, which is what happens in episode two… We knew we wanted to bring in Mrs. Watson.”

"Sherlock" season 3 will return January 1 on BBC (January 19 on PBS) with the season premiere, aptly titled "The Empty Hearse."

"Two years after the devastating events of 'The Reichenbach Fall', John appears to have got on with his life. New horizons and romance beckon. But, with London under threat of a devastating terrorist attack, Sherlock is about to take John at his word, staging his resurrection with all the theatricality that comes so naturally to him. If Sherlock thinks everything will be just as he left it, though, he's in for a very big surprise..."

Some select few fans have already seen the premiere in a special preview, but sadly, spoilers have been forbidden by Gatiss himself.
