Upcoming Samsung Phones 2014: Galaxy S5 Will Not Have Curved Display, Curved Screen Variant Possible, Sources Claim

Just in case you are holding out on buying a new phone this year, you may surely be on the lookout for upcoming Samsung phones in 2014. The biggest news is the soon to be announced Galaxy S5. For the past few weeks, the rumor mill has been piling up with juicy details about the upcoming flagship. But in just a few days, several reports have already discounted two of these rumors.

Now, an analyst report says that the Samsung Galaxy S5 would not have a curved screen, completely disregarding the previous rumor. According to a report from BGR, 'industry sources' told the Korea Herald that the newest member of the Galaxy S line would most likely go without a curved display.

According to the sources, only two manufacturers produce curved displays at huge volumes today - LG and Samsung. And their combined production might not suffice the supplies which the latter needs in order to release the Galaxy S5 with a curved display.

"The current capacity for flexible panels is not high enough for the Galaxy S5, which will be rolled out early next year", according to the report.

Samsung reportedly produces 500,000 curved displays for now, with a 30% yield in 2014. An analyst claims that this could mean that curved screens may become more available later next year.

Kim Jong-hyun, an analyst from Eugene Investment and Securities reported that "curved ones will be unveiled late next year as a Galaxy variant rather than as a flagship model", pertaining to an alleged Samsung Galaxy S5 variant which could have the curved display, and would be launched during the second half of 2014.

Of course, none of this is official so we just have to take these rumors with a pinch of salt.
