Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus Update: Specs & Performance Of Refreshed Flagship Unimpressive; ‘If You Want To Permanently Scare People Away From Android, Get Them This Phone’

Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus update: The refreshed handset which arrived in January 2013 left one tech blogger unimpressed with its specs and performance. Blogger Roy Tanck in a post entitled, “Samsung’s Galaxy S2 Plus is a terrible phone” described why it was a bad idea to get the device.

“If you want to permanently scare people away from Android, get them this phone. Ugh.”, was the blogger’s conclusion.

He said that last April, with the goal of luring her wife away from the Apple ecosystem last month, he bought her the Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus. Specs of the device he purchased has an 8GB storage, dual core processor, 1 GB RAM and a 4.3-inch display. He shares that “Samsung has managed to make that into an absolutely terrible problem.”

He points out three major issues with the device: Bloatware, broke apps-to-SD function and lack of Android 4.2.2.

The Samsung Galaxy S2 Plus, Tanck’s says comes with tons of extra apps and features that “range from completely useless to downright awful.” The issue he has is that none of these can be removed.

He also notes that with Android 4.1.2 in the S2 Plus, there’s no button to move the apps to the SD card to save valuable internal memory. And the only way to get Android 4.2.2, which fixes the apps-to-SD issue is via a leaked “ROM” image. Installing such could cause serious problems with the unit.

The lack of storage is also a problem. He says that out of the box, there would be only four gigabytes left in the device. An amount of only 1.5GB of apps installed, the apps’ caches and files filled up the remaining storage. And since Android apps are getting bigger and bigger everyday, the phone simply will not hold a set of essential apps, notes Tanck.

Even when they tried upgrading to a 4.2.2 ROM, it only saved a few megabytes. Though the hardware is decent enough, the Samsung software really let’s the unit down.
