Mission Impossible 5 Star Tom Cruise Out From ‘The Magnificent Seven’ While ‘Saving Mr. Banks’ Director John Lee Hancock Rewrites The Film

Mission Impossible 5 star Tom Cruise drops out from the "The Magnificent Seven" remake as reported by Screen Rant.

According to the report, although the reason behind the 51-year old actor's exit was not revealed, it is most likely that it's due to the actor's busy schedule as he is currently filming "Mission Impossible 5" and confirmed that he'll be returning for "Jack Reacher 2."

Tom Cruise, who recently dropped his $50 million defamation case against Bauer Publishing, had previously signed on for "The Magnificent Seven" film last year alongside Matt Damon and rumored cast Morgan Freeman.

Meanwhile, Tom Cruise's exit wasn't the only change in the film's production, "Savings Mr. Bank" director, John Lee Hancock was called in to rewrite the film's script, as reported by The Wrap.

The film which was based from the 1960 film "The Magnificent Seven" was originally written by The Killing writer Nic Pizzolatto, starred Yul Brynner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, Steve McQueen, Robert Vaughn, Host Buchholz and Brad Dexter as the seven rebel gunmen recruited by a Mexican village to protect them from bandits.

The film was based on Akira Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai," which followed by three sequels entitled, Return of the Magnificent Seven, Guns of the Magnificent Seven and The Magnificent Seven Ride Again.

John Lee Hancock was asked to rewrite the script that was originally penned by Nic Pizzolatto, who is now currently working on HBO's Original Series the "True Detective," which stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.

Hancock has been working on Western movies before he was signed on by MGM. He wrote and directed Walt Disney's "The Alamo" on 2004.

He returned working with Walt Disney to work on its latest movie "Saving Mr. Banks," which features the story of Walt Disney and Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers.

He also directed the highly acclaimed film of Sandra Bullock "The Blindside."
