Install Android 4.4 KitKat Update On Samsung Galaxy Note 3; Custom ROM based On CyanogenMod 11 Now Out For The Phablet

Owners of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 can now install Android 4.4 KitKat update.

Though the firmware currently available is an unofficial one, tech fans who are opting to install the Android 4.4 KitKat update can already do so. Accordingly, custom ROMs that are based on the CyanogenMod 11 are already available.

The official CyanogenMod 11 firmware based on Android 4.4 KitKat update has not even been released but there are already firmware based on the latest Google OS that are circulating online for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

As posted on International Business Times, "CyanogenMod released its source code for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Friday, and developers at the XDA Forums have already put togetherpreliminary ROMs for the smartphone."

Reportedly, some of the functional features of the ROM based on CyanogenMod 11 for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 are Wi-fi, mobile data, Bluetooth, USB 3.0, SMS, headphones, speaker, 3D graphics, camera and video. Moreover, below are some more features already working on the Android 4.4 KitKat ROM:

S-Pen

front-facing camera and sensors

notification LED

However, features that are currently now working on the ROM available are NFC and calling. Meanwhile, below are features that have not been tested yet:

USB OTG

MHL/HDMI

earpiece

LTE

Tethering

Since this is an unofficial build, users of Samsung Galaxy Note 3 who wish to install the ROM should expect unstable performance. Moreover, the firmware is not recommended for those who are not experienced yet with the use of custom ROMS.

Nightly builds for the ROM based on Android 4.4 KitKat for Samsung Galaxy Note 3 should be expected in the forthcoming weeks.

As for more Samsung Galaxy Note 3 news, the South Korean manufacturer recently launched accessories for the latest phablet. According to Christian Post, a new version of S-View, available in black and white, is priced at $70 in Samsung Store in the US.

Morever, a gamepad for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 was also released by the tech company in select countries.
