New The Girl With the 'Dragon Tattoo' Book Sequel Planned; New Writer Hired; Won't Follow Stieg Larson's Outline

The Swedish publisher of the best-selling "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" trilogy, Norstedts, announced it signed David Lagercrantz to write the new series which will feature the characters of journalist Mikael Blomqvist and hacker Lisbeth Salander. 

Swedish author David Lagercrantz will write a fourth book in the Millennium series, to be published in August 2015.

Stieg Larsson, the author of the bestselling Millennium novels, died almost a decade ago. Larsson wrote three books out of a planned 10-book series - The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest.

"The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," the international best-seller that spawned two sequels and movies, will be getting a new sequel. A new author will write the sequel because Stieg Larsson, who wrote "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" died in 2004. The storyline will continue where the third book in the trilogy left off, but with a completely new plot.
Norstedts, the Swedish publisher of the best-selling novel trilogy that began with  "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" announced that it hired an author to write a new sequel to the series.

Norstedts signed a contract with author David Lagercrantz,  Lagercrantz was the ghostwriter of I am Zlatan Ibrahimović, the autobiography of the Swedish football player, to write a new book about the characters created by Larsson.  The new book will follow the continuing exploits of journalist Mikael Blomqvist and newly-rich hacker Lisbeth Salander. The sequel to "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" is scheduled to be published in August 2015.

Eva Gedin, the head of publishing at Norstedts, told The Associated Press the sequel will be an original work. The new book in the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series will includes nothing from the fourth book in the series that Larsson was still writing when he died.

The novel trilogy that began with Girl With the Dragon Tattoo sold over 75 million books sold in 50 countries. It was made into two films, a Swedish and an American version. The book was the first part of the Millenium Trilogy of crime novels by the Swedish writer. It spawned the sequels "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."
