Super Junior, TVXQ, Girls' Generation (SNSD) Top 3 Idols Best Korean Teacher by Foreigners
Super Junior has been selected to be the best Korean teacher among K-Pop stars among foreigners studying Korean.
This was based on a survey done by Kyung Hee University Institute of International Education on K-Pop of 524 foreigners from 65 countries residing in Korea that includes foreign students, workers and Korean students living overseas.
The result was revealed on April 4 showing that Super Junior received 22.1% on the topic asking ‘The most suitable K-Pop star to be a Korean language teacher.’
The foreigners stated Super Junior’s lively and intimate personality was their biggest advantage on becoming a Korean teacher.
Following behind Super Junior is TVXQ, Girls’ Generation, and Big Bang ranking 2nd, 3rd and 4th each with 14%, 12.5% and 9.6% respectively.
The survey also included the most suitable K-Pop star as a tour guide and Girls’ Generation received the overwhelming vote at 37.7%. Stating their bright, outgoing, and kind personality will be fitting as a tour guide. Followed by Super Junior, 2Pm and Big Bang ranking the top 4 each at 20.2%, 10.2%, and 8.6% respectively.
Foreigners selected YouTube the most to be the media where they first came into contact with K-Pop.
YouTube was selected at 24.1% followed by local media 23.3%, Korean broadcasting 17% and Facebook at 10%.
More than 58% of the participants stated that they come to study Korean because of K-Pop.
It seems there is also a significant different of how K-Pop is enjoyed by nationality.
Asian countries such as China and Japan answered concerts at 47.6%, fan meeting and various other events at 15.2%.
On the other hand Europe, or North and South America answered most commonly for YouTube as their main source of enjoying K-Pop at 38.1%.
The survey included participation of 524 foreigners from 65 countries such as USA, UK, France, China, Japan, Mexico, Brazil, Uganda, Angola, and so more. The survey was conducted for 6 days from March 26 till March 31.
Dean of Kyung Hee University Institute of International Education shared, “The survey shows that foreigners interest in K-Pop is leading to the interest and understanding of Korean and Korean culture in general.”
