Before the winter hiatus, we found out the secrets behind Wes and Grayson Gilbert's experiments on vampires, Katherine had a heart attack, and Damon broke up with Elena because he was afraid he was changing her.

TVLine reports that "Vampire Diaries" will soon air its 100th episode, and spoilers reveal it'll be chock-full of "surprises, tears, romance, nostalgic moments, juicy twists, and maybe one or two familiar faces," according to executive producer Julie Plec.

Katherine is dying, but because of her past actions, few are feeling sympathetic for her current state.

"She doesn't have a huge fan base at the Salvatore house where she is, so Stefan is the person who's there for her," executive producer Caroline Dries said, TVLine reports.

Viewers will remember that Stefan and Katherine hooked up in a shocking reunion between the former lovers during the fall finale.

The 100th episode will be a "huge" one for Damon and Elena, as we learn how they're dealing with their break up, Dries teased in a spoiler. Things between the exes are "still so tender. There's still so much that is unresolved about it," she added.

Meanwhile, Bonnie and Jeremy will "hit some speed bumps" in their relationship - we'll be happy to see them on screen again, since it feels like ages since we've caught up with this couple.

Caroline, on the other hand, "needs some lovin!" Dries said with a laugh, TVLine reports.

Also, recent spoilers reveal that Klaus and another "Originals" character will soon return to Mystic Falls in a guest appearance. Will it be Tyler?
