Jolla Phone Outsells Apple's Latest iPhones In Finnish Carrier, Poised To Make A Splash This Year

Jolla finally released its Sailfish OS alongside the Jolla phone last year, and it looks like it is getting a warm welcome in its home country.

In a report by GSM Arena, the company's first smartphone release made it to the fifth spot of Finnish carrier DNA's top selling phones. Interestingly, the Sailfish-powered device was ahead of Apple's two new iPhones, the 5s and 5c.

Meanwhile, sitting atop the list is Nokia's Lumia 520, which continues to be the most popular and top selling Windows Phone smartphone today. Following the 520 are three Samsung devices, the Galaxy Trend, Galaxy Y, and Galaxy S3.

From the looks of it, it seems the Finnish market is not only in favor of cheaper smartphones, but also widely supports devices from both Nokia and Jolla.

While other Finnish carriers are not offering the Jolla phone just yet, its marketing power in Finland could compel them to include it in their lineup of phones.

As for Jolla which is made mostly of former-Nokia employees, an immediate follow-up to the first Jolla phone would be highly anticipated by fans of the MeeGo platform.

And this year should be the mark of another milestone for Jolla.
