Anime Freak News: ‘Space Dandy’ Debuts on Adult Swim; U.S. Premiere of Sexy Sci Fi Anime (Video)

Anime Freak News: "Space Dandy," a new science fiction anime TV series, made its U.S. premiere last night on Adult Swim. Critics are saying that Space Dandy is off to a rocky start but Otaku may beg to differ. Let them beg. The new anime is fun, sexy and well, the jokes will make you groan. Doesn't mean it's not worth watching.

Adult Swim is presenting an English-language version of the Japanese science-fiction anime and some of the jokes may be lost in translation. "Space Dandy" tells the story of an intergalactic alien hunter with really great hair. His favorite place to hang is kind of a cosmic Hooters if it came out of "Star Wars"  "zero G meets double D."

The "Space Dandy" anime series is being generally directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, who also helmed "Cowboy Bebop" which ran from 1998 until 1999 and "Samurai Champloo" which ran from 2005 to 2006. The shows are considered two of the best Japanese anime series to run on American TV. "Space Dandy" is animated by the studio, Bones, which also produced "Fullmetal Alchemist" and "Eureka Seven."

Watanabe's previous series, sci-fi bounty hunter tale "Cowboy Bebop," and the hip-hop reboot of Japanese history "Samurai Champloo," were serious but had comic elements. "Space Dandy" is a tribute and parody of space operas like Buck Rogers, Flash Gordon and Buckaroo Banzai.

The Japanese dub of the first episode of "Space Dandy" was leaked on Friday, before it  premiered f the series is being generallyed two of the a rocky start but Otaku may beg to differ. Let them beg. The new anime is fun, sexworldwide. The leaker posted on the BitTorrent link, "That was hard to seed :s Work done. Madman, better fix your leaks *again*."

And, as the episode moves away from the breastaurant, there are signs that the show could work as a loudly affectionate bubble-gum-colored salute to Saturday morning serials, though there's no telling whether the wit, insouciance and depth of feeling Mr. Watanabe has shown in the past will return.

Space Dandy's spaceship is decked out in a tiki theme. There are two beings on his crew: QT, a child-like robot and Meow, a feline kind of creature who has a yen for human pornography.

Space Dandy's voice is done by Ian Sinclair. Alison Viktorin does the voice for QT. Joel McDonald plays Meow. J. Michael Tatum plays Dr. Gel. Micah Solusod plays Bea. Kent Williams voices Perry. Alexis Tipton plays Honey. Colleen Clinkenbeard does the voice of Scarlet. Space Dandy is narrated by R. Bruce Elliott.

Space Dandy will play on Adult Swim on Saturday nights at 11:30 p.m. Eastern and Pacific times and 10:30 p.m. Central time.
