'Wolf Of Wall Street' Leonardo DiCaprio Defends Martin Scorsese Movie Ala 'Aviator' Howard Hughes Style, 'This Is Something In Our Very Culture'

"Wolf of Wall Street" Leonardo DiCaprio defended director Martin Scorsese movie against criticisms that the movie is out and out hedonistic.

The movie has also been lashed at on grounds that it seems to neglect the fate of the people who lost their money and livelihood in the Wall Street scam masterminded by DiCaprio’s character Jordan Belfort.

Speaking to HitFlix, the "Aviator" actor clarified that the movie does not promote hedonism, it just shows what is really there.

"I mean ultimately I think if anyone watches this movie, at the end of 'Wolf of Wall Street' they're going to see that we're not at all condoning this behaviour."

"In fact we're saying that this is something that is in our very culture and it needs to be looked at and it needs to be talked about," said Leo, reminding his fans of the way, as Howard Hughes, he argued the case for ‘Outlaw’ in Martin Scorsese directed "Aviator."

In the 2004 movie, to convince the Censor Board, Howard Hughes actor made Professor Ritz measure the cleavage of leading ladies in Censor Board approved films of those days. He then compared the amount of area exposed with that of Jane Russell’s cleavage on show in "Outlaw"and had argued his stand triumphantly.

Praising his long time friend and director Martin Scorsese as someone who does not decide movie’s script and the characters on moral grounds, the Oscar winning Titanic star also praised said, "The unique thing about Marty is that he doesn't judge his characters. And that was something that you don't quite understand while you're making the movie, but he allows the freedom of this almost hypnotic, drug-infused, wild ride that these characters go on. And he allows you, as an audience - guilty or not - to enjoy in that ride without judging who these people are."

"Wolf of Wall Street" is a strong contender for Academy Awards 2014 nominations and is pitched against highly critically acclaimed movies of 2013 like "American Hustle," "12 Years A Slave," "Gravity" etc.
