In the first meeting this week, the 20-14-7 Dallas Stars will travel to Long Island vs the 14-22-7 New York Islanders. In six days, they'll play in Dallas where a Stars team is allowing a lot of goals lately. Meanwhile, the Islanders are finally starting to get some scoring. After winning a season-best three straight, the Isles lost 3-2 at home vs the Hurricanes.
"We had too many guys that were nonchalant," coach Jack Capuano told ESPN.com. "We didn't have all 20 guys. We can't have nights like that."
Kyle Okposo had his eight-game point streak snapped. His wife is due to give birth to their first child, so Okposo is a game-time decision vs Dallas on Monday.
"We'll know a little bit more here in a couple of hours," coach Jack Capuano said after the morning skate. "We knew going in what time she was going to go in. We knew he'd be there all night. Now it just depends on this morning, if things work out well, knock on wood, he gets his proper rest and he can play tonight.
In the last two games, the Stars allowed 11 goals in what were both losing efforts. Dallas finished with 17 giveaways in Saturday's 5-1 loss to Detroit.
"They had a lot of odd-man rushes," forward Shawn Horcoff said. "It wasn't the type of game we want to play. We want to be quick in transition, but we can't be giving away pucks like that. We can't be giving up quality shots."
