Nigella Lawson Trial: Grillo Sisters Did Not Feel Guilty About Their Revelations They Have To Do What They Have To Do For Their 'Freedom Was At Stake'

Nigella Lawson trial against her two former personal assistants Elisabetta and Francesca Grillo has taken the British media by storm.

Before the year ends the Grillo sisters were acquitted from the charges of fraud, however during their interview with ITV This Morning Elisabetta and Francesca claims that they may have won the court battle but the heart of the people remains with Nigella Lawson.

"We have won the court case but definitely she had the most support from the public. She [Lawson] is well loved and she will always be loved and I am sure she will be fine," Francesca Grillo, 35, told the show. "She is great at what she is doing and I wish her all the best."

The Italian sisters were accused of fraudulently using the company credit cards for their personal luxury, spending thousands of pounds on designer products, while working for the celebrity chef and her former husband Charles Saatchi.

The sisters however claimed that their bosses approved all purchases made by them, thus the jurors of Isleworth Crown Court in West London found them not guilty of such charges.

During the course of the trial both Elisabetta and Francesca had to divulge information about Lawson that the world never knew about.

Although the sisters felt bad about having to having to provide evidence about Lawson's drug use, they did not feel guilty doing it because their "freedom was at stake."

"It was tough but it was more tough to sit down in a dock and think, I might be in prison for a long time," Francesca said.

Although she had to do it Francesca did not had fun revealing such facts, making Lawson's family affairs aired publicly.

"I felt sorry for all of us involved. We shouldn't have reached that. But unfortunately you are in a position where your freedom is at stake so you have to tell your side of the story ... I wish it didn't happen, but I had to think about my freedom."

"We were in court not because of her drug use or because we wanted her to be punished. In admitting it, I think she was very brave to do so ... but I didn't feel guilty," she added.

"It's mortifying for her, it's mortifying for us, it's mortifying for everybody involved."

The 41-year old Elisabetta said: "I feel sorry that we ended up in that situation, that she [Lawson] did admit to that. But no, not guilty, because it was nothing to do with me, it's her life."

The 55-year old Nigella Lawson admits to taking cocaine while the case was on trial she also admits to doing drugs with her late husband John Diamond upon hearing about his sickness.

When asked about a possible reconciliation with the former boss the 35-year old Francesca said, "It's like a broken mirror - you can glue it back together but you see all the cracks."

The older Grillo sibling felt that "There are no winners in this situation. All of us lost something," despite winning the case.

On the other hand, Nigella Lawson who was very disappointed with the outcome of the trial appeared on the US TV show Good Morning America to promote her new show, The Taste.

On the interview the mother of two who admitted to taking drugs was asked about her experience on taking the stand.

"I can't really remember exactly because you're so focused on answering the questions to the best of your ability that actually you don't really have an enormous awareness of yourself.

"Maybe that's a good thing. My only desire really was to protect my children as much as possible which ... alas I couldn't always do," Lawson answered.

Lawson continued telling how she felt about her private life slowly unfolds through the media.

"To have not only your private life but distortions of your private life put on display is mortifying, but there are people going through an awful lot worse and to dwell on any of it would be self-pity and I don't like to do that," she said.

However, Lawson is ready to face the future and leave the past behind her.

"Since then I've eaten a lot of chocolate, had a very good Christmas and am into the new year."
