Samsung Galaxy Gear Watch News: BMW Partners W/ Samsung For ‘World’s First Fully Connected Electrically-Powered Car’; Driver Can Get Car Info Via Galaxy Gear

Samsung Galaxy Gear watch news: South Korean tech giant Samsung and luxury carmaker BMW is working together to enhance the i3, which BMW touts as “the world’s first fully connected electrically-powered car.” Samsung and BMW have teamed up at the CES 2014 in Vegas to show off how Galaxy Gear can connect with BMW’s i3 to improve the driving experience.

According to a report by Phandroid, by connecting the Galaxy Gear smartwatch to the car, drivers or passengers can quickly access valuable information about the vehicle such as remaining gas and how many miles can be driven. It also points to simple yet important info like if the windows are up or down, doors are open/closed or locked/unlocked and a host of other details for safe but connected driving.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear and i3 connection doesn’t stop at reporting data from the car, users can also send commands to the car, both through tap commands on their Galaxy Gear and via voice commands with the latest Samsung S Voice features.

Phandroid notes that one handy feature is initiating the horn of your car, which comes in useful when you forgot where you parked your vehicle. You can simply tell your BMW to honk the horn via the Galaxy Gear and it will alert you to its location.

Your Samsung Galaxy Gear can also go so far as to change the temperature of your car in anticipation of driving. You never have to freeze while waiting for your heat to get going or endure the heat coming from leather seats waiting for your car to cool down.

The collaboration between Samsung and BMW marks an increasing integration of wearable technology to day-to-day life. The CES 2014, which kicking-off its Day 2 today, has shown a lot of new wearable tech just on its Day 0 and Day 1 events. These includes an earbud with a built-in heart rate monitor from Intel and a new Pebble smartwatch.
