Washington has lost four in a row and six of its last seven games. Besides the one win vs the Rangers, the Capitals have earned three points in the six losses.
"We're going through a lousy stretch right now where we're playing some good hockey and getting some lousy results," coach Adam Oates told ESPN.com. "Eleven shots (allowed) on the road should be good enough. But it's not, so we need to find a way to play just a little bit better."
Braden Holtby allowed every goal against Minnesota in a 5-3 loss to fall to 0-2-1 in his last four starts with a 5.69 goals-against average and .802 save percentage.
"It's all about getting the confidence back, somehow, some way," Holtby told the team's official website. "If I'm full of confidence, I guess I make that fifth-goal save, that one that could really keep us in the game. That's the one I really don't like, the one I need to have. The other four, do what you want on them. Maybe I play them differently, who knows."
Injury report, according to NHL.com:
"Capitals forward Michael Latta (lower body) and defenseman Jack Hillen (fractured tibial plateau) are out. ... Lightning forward Steven Stamkos (broken right tibia) took part in the morning skate Tuesday. Forward J.T. Brown (shoulder) and defenseman Keith Aulie (hand) are out."
