Miami Dolphins Ricky Williams Says Marijuana Policy Of NFL Is A Joke, Adding Potheads In The League Is Ordinary

The use of marijuana for medical practices in the NFL is up for debate as league commissioner Roger Goodell bared that they are studying such case after clamors that the herbal plant can indeed help injured players. The fact that Super Bowl featuredtwo teams (Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks) from cities that have legalized recreation use of such plant also hyped the conversation.

"We'll continue to follow the medicine," the commissioner said during a press conference before the Super Bowl.

"Our experts right now are not indicating we should change our policy in any way, we are not actively considering that at this point and time. But if it does down the road some time, that's something we would never take off the table if we could benefit our players at the end of the day.

While NFL remains defiant about the casual use of marijuana, former Miami Dolphins Ricky Williams came out saying the league's stance against cannabis is a joke. He said that the NFL going against such practice is just a PR stunt.

According to TMZ, Williams think that the league doesn't really care about players who smoke pot. The entertainment website wrote:

Former Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams tells TMZ Sports ... the NFL's policy on marijuana is a JOKE ... saying the league has no real interest in rehabilitating weed users, it's all for P.R.

Williams -- who famously left the NFL in 2004 after testing positive for pot on several occasions -- says, "I don't think the NFL really cares about whether or not players use marijuana."

Ricky says he believes the point of the NFL's policy on weed is NOT to detour players from using -- but only to maintain the league's image as a family friendly business.

Williams himself had some run-ins with the NFL relating to marijuana use. In 2004, he retired from playing despite being in his prime form after being suspended for four games for failing in drug-testing policy. He returned to the Dolphins in 2006 but was again suspended for after violating the NFL's drug-testing policy for a fourth time.
