Steven Moffat On Sherlock Season 4, Moriarty Return, Third Holmes Brother, And Possible 2016 Premiere Date!

As "Sherlock" season 3 ends, recent quotes by Steven Moffat may indicate that season 4 may several years off once again.

According to Zap2it, Steven Moffat was recently asked about a premiere timeframe for "Sherlock" season 4.

"I have no idea," said Moffat. "[Sue Vertue]'s working on the schedules right now, I just started with Capaldi on the new series of 'Doctor Who.' You know, we'll do what we can, but with no sacrifice in quality—that's the thing."

So what does that mean for "Sherlock" fans? A year? A year and a half?

"If people have to wait two years, they'll have to wait two years," said Moffat to IGN.

Which is a long time to have some of the biggest questions from "Sherlock" season 3 answered.

For example, to what extent will Moriarty (Andrew Scott) be a part of "Sherlock" season 4?

“I can’t really say what we’re doing with that, but there is no last-minute whim in this. We’ve had what we’re going to do with Moriarty in place from before the second season," said Moffat to Hypable.

"Exactly what we’re going to do. I remember talking it through with Andrew Scott, who plays Moriarty. Wait and see what’s going to happen.”

And one particularly mysterious detail of "Sherlock" season 3 is Mycroft's mention of a third brother.

"Wait and see!" teased Moffat.

As you can see, Steven Moffat has all the answers, but none he's willing to share.
