Amy Adams’ Valentino Bag At Philip Seymour Hoffman’s Funeral Causes Controversy! Fashion Label’s PR Photo 'Appalling,' Insensitive?

Amy Adams caused unwanted controversy when the Valentino bag she was carrying at Philip Seymour Hoffman's funeral became the subject of an insensitive PR snafu by the fashion label, which the actress' representative even dubbed as appalling.

Upasna Kosna, the publicist for designer Valentino, emailed a photo of Amy Adams carrying the bag to journalists along with the caption: "We are pleased to announce Amy Adams carrying the Valentino Garavany Rockstud Duble bag from the Spring/Summer 2014 collection on Feb. 6 in New York."

Page Six reported that the tote bag retails for $3,275.

The fashion house was quick to deny that Amy Adams, who co-starred with Philip Seymour Hoffman in "The Master," was in on the act.

Mona Swanson, spokeswoman for Valentino, immediately issued an apology for the failed marketing campaign.

In a statement to The Post, she said: "We sincerely regret releasing a photo to the media this morning of Amy Adams with a Valentino bag. We were not aware the photograph was taken while she was attending the wake of Philip Seymour Hoffman. It was an innocent mistake, and we apologize to Ms. Adams who was not aware, or a part of, our p.r. efforts."

According to MailOnline, Amy Adams, who is not affiliated with the designer label Valentino, was in stitches after hearing about the move.

A representative of the actress told the news site that Amy Adams thought of the crass marketing blitz as "truly appalling."

"Amy Adams is not a paid spokesperson for Valentino and the suggestion she would use this moment to participate in a promotion is truly appalling," the actress' representative added.

Page Six reported that Ugg company gifted the friends of Philip Seymour Hoffman with free boots hoping that an eager paparazzi would snap their photos in New York and the company gets free marketing.

"They did gifting in the hopes that that would happen," Page Six reported quoting an associate of Ugg. "Since they knew a ton of celebs were in New York City and the weather sucks."
