Upcoming HTC Phones For 2014 Will Be Cheaper, More Midrange Devices But No Entry-Level Handsets For Taiwanese Manufacturer

If you have been looking for upcoming HTC phones in 2014, you may have noticed that there is only one currently in the works - the HTC One 2 M8 flagship.

That has certainly been the trend for the Taiwanese manufacturer in the last two years, where it focused heavily on its flagship devices rather than the midrange level where it excelled in its first years in the Android market.

However, it looks like HTC will change its ways this year as it plans on releasing more budget-friendly midrange devices. In the report by Android Authority, HTC's CFO Chialin Chang and chairwoman Cher Wang told the media that they will focus on marketing, as well as releasing cheaper handsets to cater to the fast-growing mass market.

"The problem with us last year was we only concentrated on our flagship. We missed a huge chunk of the mid-tier market", admitted the execs.

In the report, HTC would probably launch several handsets this year within the $150-300 price range, which qualifies for the midrange market. However, the company does not have any plans on getting much lower and developing entry-level phones with pricetags lower than $150.

This development is certainly promising, considering the fact that the last time HTC launched an army of midrangers and pushed them with intelligent marketing, the company became the top smartphone brand in the industry.

We'll see whether HTC's ship will indeed turn around this year.
