‘Frozen' Movie Sequel, Stage Musical, Theme Park In Disney Agenda! Animated Feature Becomes 28th Highest Grossing Film Of All Time!

"Frozen" is probably the best Disney movie (not Pixar) in the past decade, or even the millennium. Disney is the probably the best at making the most out of their creative property and Disney will not hesitate to feature their new additions after a long drought.

Disney will have 'the works' for the movie's characters. Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and most especially Olaf The Snowman will figure prominently in the merchandise. The official announcement from Disney chief Bob Iger when he spoke on an earnings call was covered by Fortune:

"There's a lot of active development. You will see 'Frozen' in more places than you see today,  including as an adaptation for Broadway, sequels and integrations into its theme parks, videogames and other opportunities."

"Frozen" is currently showing in Korea, where it has become the highest grossing Disney animated movie with $45 million earnings. It will still be shown in Japan and China in March. According to Box Office Mojo, it now ranks at no. 28 in the all-time worldwide gross chart with $914.2 million and counting. It may pass $1 billion when all is said and done.

Fortune magazine reports that Disney has grand plans to make the Frozen franchise visible beyond the theatre:

"Frozen's impact goes far beyond the movie theater, making it a key example of the synergy Iger has become known for during his Disney tenure. Anna and Elsa, the lead characters in the movie, have already become top-selling toys, as has Olaf the snowman, and a Frozen attraction at Disney's theme parks would be another logical step. Its music, written by Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez, is a natural for Broadway. In my house, for example, the movie's songs, such as "Let It Go," and "Do You Want To Build A Snowman?" have become the soundtrack to our lives, thanks to my daughters."

Bob Iger confirmed it. A quote from the report: "We're not demanding speed. We're demanding excellence."

However, it did not mention what is perhaps the most important expansion of the movie-the sequel. Forbes magazine tackles this one. While Iger talked about "franchise potential," the financial aspect of the sequel is too much to ignore. From Forbes: "..financially speaking, under pretty much any other circumstances, a theatrical sequel to Frozen would already be scheduled for Thanksgiving 2016 or 2017."

If "Frozen" breaks the $1 billion mark, Disney will have two billion dollar movies without sure sequels, the other being "Iron Man 3." The Iron Man sequel is stalled because of contract negotiations with Robert Downey, Jr. It's unlikely that they have the same problem with Anna and Elsa..or Olaf for that matter.
