Benedict Cumberbatch Girlfriend 2014: ‘Devastatingly Cruel’ Sherlock Wouldn’t Be Fun To Date Or Get ‘Cosy’ With, He Teases

Benedict Cumberbatch teases that being Sherlock's girlfriend or dating him wouldn't be any fun. Benedict Cumberbatch talks about a "devastatingly cruel" Sherlock and how he wouldn't be a great cuddle buddy for a girlfriend.

In the season 3 finale of "Sherlock," Benedict Cumberbatch's character had a girlfriend for a brief moment, which included nicknames, steamy shared baths, and a passionate kiss - but Cumberbatch warns fans that the detective wouldn't make a great boyfriend.

"He shouldn't be someone you want to cosy up with," Cumberbatch said, RadioTimes reports. "You should feel compelled by his company, but you should really know how dangerous he is."

In a behind-the-scenes interview with Benedict and show creators Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss on the soon-to-be-released DVD of the series, the trio explain Sherlock breaking his girlfriend Janine's heart in the finale of season 3.

"In the original story, he does become engaged to Milverton's maid," Gatiss explains on the DVD, MTV News reports. "Heartlessly, which is what Steven has extrapolated into this thing."

Gatiss and Moffat then laugh about how John Watson's (Martin Freeman) reaction to discovering Sherlock had a girlfriend was spot on, Entertainmentwise.com reports.

"But you're behaving like a human being here!" Gatiss says.

"You think it's nice, he's become humanised," Moffat continues. "He knows how to do all that, but he exploits it to terrible ends."

"It's devastatingly cruel, what he does," Cumberbatch adds about his character breaking up with his girlfriend. "He inveigles his way back into her life and impresses her, and turns his ability on to a single focus."

Let's hope Benedict Cumberbatch isn't as heartless while he's dating in real life!
