iOS 8 Release Date: 2014 Apple Mobile OS Rumored To Have ‘Okemo’ As Codename While In Dev’t.; Expected To Include ‘Healthbook’ App, Maybe Launched WWDC 2014 W/ iPhone 6

iOS 8 release date: The 2014 version of Apple’s mobile OS is being developed under the codename, Okemo, rumors suggest. In an extensive report by 9to5 Mac, it noted that the iOS 8 maybe release at the WWDC 2014 in June, together with the iPhone 6.

According to reports, iOS 8 will include a Healthbook app, as the Cupertino tech giant is intent on redefining the world of mobile health.

The Apple-focused blog said that the software will be capable of monitoring and storing fitness statistics such as steps taken, calories burned, and miles walked. It will also have the ability to manage and track weight loss. “Healthbook,” 9to5 Mac noted will be a pre-installed challenger to similar apps by Nike and Fitbit.

Another feature of “Healthbook” will be the ability to monitor a user’s vital signs. The feature will be able to track a person’s blood pressure, hydration levels, heart rate, and potentially several other blood-related data points.

Citing insider sources, 9to5Mac said that the software will also allow users to enter details about their medications and will remind them to take pills at scheduled times. The new app is expected to integrate with the existing Reminders app in the current iOS.

In terms of its interface, the “Healthbook” will have multiple user interface cues from Apple’s own Passbook app. The latter allows storage of loyalty cards, coupons and other materials normally stored in physical wallets.

The rumored health and fitness app would be a digital stack of cards that can be swiped between. Every card represents a different fitness or health data point, 9to5Mac’s insider sources said. The site also noted that “Healthbook” is similar to Passbook’s icon, but is festooned with graphics representing vital signs.

The app may not even be on the iOS 8 as scheduled, according to 9to5Mac. It could still be cut out from the final set of apps for the iOS 8.
