Mario Kart 8 Release Date Set For May 30 [OFFICIAL]; Highly-Anticipated Nintendo Wii U Racing Game To Feature 7 Koopalings

Mario Kart 8 release date has finally been confirmed.

The official Mario Kart 8 release date was revealed in the trailer shown during the latest web stream of the Nintendo Direct. Accordingly, Mario Kart 8 release date is set for May 30 in Europe, Australia and North America.

Aside from announcing the Mario Kart 8 release date, it was also revealed by the company president Satoru Iwata the turtle-like  characters from Koopa Troopas, or simply Koopas, will be included in the game as playable racers. For the first time in the Mario Kart series, the 7 hard-shelled Koopalings will be part of the game. As posted on Gamespot, the names of the Koopa characters are Iggy, Morton, Ludwig, Lemmy, Wendy, Larry and Roy.

The Nintendo Direct event that happened today also provided details about other upcoming game from the Wii U maker such as "Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze" and "Super Smash Bros." A new character for Super Smash Bros on Wii and Nintendo 3DS was revealed - Little Mac of Punch Out!

The event also showcased a new trailer for a forthcoming new roleplaying game from Monolith Software. Furthermore, fresh Wii U eShop titles were also presented including "NES Remix 2", which is one of the first Game Boy Advance games to be ported to Wii U Virtual console and set to be released on April. Also, a role-playing title from Ubisoft called "Child of Light" will be available on May 1.
