Lego Movie' Blockbuster Hit Dominates In Second Week! 'The Simpsons' Will Air Lego Episode To Celebrate Film’s Success!

The "Lego Movie" turned out to be an infallible blockbuster as it continues its momentum on its second week.  The movie was such a hit, it will even have its own episode in "The Simpsons."

According to the Associated Press, the "Lego Movie" continued to fill theatres with a $48.8 million take, along with $27.7 million in the international market. Countires like the UK, Sweden, Norway and Holland are all in on the Lego craze.

The movie features the voices of Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Will Ferrell and guest voices Liam Neeson, Channing Tatum and Alison Brie.

Paul Dergarabedian, senior media analyst for box-office tracker Rentrak, studied the Lego phenomenon. From AP:  "It's crossing over to all audiences. It's not just a kids' movie. There's something for boys, girls and adults, as well. The likeability is astronomical. That across-the-board appeal is giving 'The Lego Movie' unstoppable momentum, even in a weekend loaded with new competitors."

Some of the stiff competition came from "About Last Night," starring Kevin Hart and the "Robocop" remake starring Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton to round out the Top 3.

The popularity of the Lego Movie has spilled over from the theaters to the TV screen. To celebrate the success of the film, Fox will have an episode from the 25th season of "The Simpsons" dedicated to it.

The plot synopsis from The Guardian: "For the 550th episode of the show, titled Brick Like Me, Homer wakes up to find that everyone in Springfield is made of Lego. He then has to "put together" how he got there and work out how to get home."

Will the Lego Movie upstage Toy Story as the top Toy based film? "The Lego Movie" has yet to be shown all over the world and the worldwide gross figures will probably skyrocket due to the universal popularity of the toy.
