Ride Along Movie Sequel Confirmed; Ice Cube And Kevin Hart To Reprise Their Roles; Lead Stars Will Be Busy Ever Before Shooting Starts

Universal Pictures' Ride Along will be back for a sequel, entertainment website Deadline has confirmed. On Tuesday, Universal announced that the action comedy film's planned sequel will officially push through with production set to star by June or early July.

Deadline wrote:

It was inevitable after the huge success of Ride Along that Universal Pictures executives would be salivating to get the sequel together. Tim Story will direct Ride Along 2 and Ice Cube and Kevin Hart are closing to reprise their roles as the quick-witted security guard (Hart) who has his eye on his partner's (Cube's) sister. The film debuted five weeks ago on the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend to bring in a record opening of $41.5M. It has since grossed more than $120M worldwide as of this weekend. The three-day gross on Ride Along dropped only 9% even as they shed 283 screens with $3,460 per screen.

The website also reported that Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi were also tapped to write the script for Ride Along 2.

A late June/early July start is planned and all are hard at work finalizing the script which is expected to have more action and am hearing that it will be more multi-cultural to expand the demos. Smart move, all, if you want to expand into the lucrative Latin American and European markets. Yes, it's comedy but it's also business.

The movie's second installment was initially planned in April 2013, ten months even before the first flick hit theaters.

People can now expect second coming of the hit comedy. However, the production side might face a problem with the hectic schedule of the film's lead stars and other personnel.

Film director Tim Story, who directed Fantastic Four and its sequel Silver Surfer, is currently busy with Think Like A Man Too which also stars Hart.

Kevin Hart will also have his hands full with an array of movies or shows he has signed up for. Aside from Ride Along 2 andT hink Like A Man Too, the 34-year old actor/comedian will also star alongside Will Ferrel in Get Hard and Jeremy Garelick-written and -directed The Wedding Ringer.
