California Resident Wins $425 Powerball Jackpot: A Look At The Top Lottery Wins In The U.S.

One resident of Northern California might just had the most shocking night of his or her life when the Powerball jackpot winning numbers have been announced.  Last Wednesday, the California Lottery announced that the Powerball winner would take home the $425 million jackpot.

The Powerball winning numbers were 17, 49, 54, 35, and 1. The Powerball number was 34. As per reports, the lucky ticket was purchased from Dixon Landing Chevron located in Milpitas, San Jose. The establishment will be taking home $1 million for the win.

Store co-owner Kulwinder Singh cannot explain his happiness for the win: "I think it will mean a lot. From an investment point of view, it's just a great opportunity."

Singh is hoping that it's one of his regular clients who won the Powerball jackpot. "There are a lot of deserving people. I'm super excited to find out. I really want to know," he said.

Last Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is the sixth largest win in the U.S. lottery history. The largest jackpot was $656 million courtesy of the Mega Millions in March 2012. Three winning tickets came from Kansas, Maryland, and Illinois.

Many players are enticed to play Powerball for each ticket only costs $2. The game is being played in 43 states.
