'Pirates of the Caribbean 5: Dead Men Tell No Tales' Rumors: Blackbeard Not Coming Back?

"Pirates of the Caribbean" actor Ian McShane, who played Captain Blackbeard in the movie series, expressed doubts whether he will sign on to do "Dead Men Tell No Tales," the fifth instalment of the Disney franchise.

Interviewed over at Bleeding Cool during the press promo for "Cuban Fury," the veteran actor was asked to confirm the rumor that he will come back to reprise his role as Blackbeard in "Pirates of the Caribbean 5."

"Oh, I don't think so," he said. "They're probably too expensive the next time. Johnny (Depp) will probably get, I dont know ... they will probably give him another island somehwere to do the next one," he joked.

Ian McShane said he has done a lot of films, implying that he knows how the business works. So the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor doesn't expect to receive callback to play Blackbeard "no more than I expect that I would sign on to do Hercules 2, the one I just finished (because) there's supposed to be another one."

The "Pirates of the Caribbean" star said that all the big movies, the producers always get the actors to sign on for the next one but he has doubts that the film will ever get finished according to the producers' target release.

"They kep announcing and they keep putting it back," he said.

He also said that spending 16 weeks "in some paradise" might not be as enticing as it sounds.

"They get pretty boring, those movies," he said, unlike filming "Cuban Fury" in London where he just spent nine weeks on location.

With "Pirates of the Carribean 5:" he might "spend eight hours on your trailer reading a book or watching TV, which is a very nice place to be when you do the big spectacular movies."

In "Pirates of the Carribean 5," Johnny Depp is set to reprise his role as Captain Jack Sparrow who will try to outwit the ghost of Captain Brand (reportedly to be played by Christopher Waltz) in looking for Poseidon's trident.

Also in the film will be Geoffrey Rush as Captain Barbosa and Keith Richards as Captain Teague.
