Outkast’s Andre 3000 Shreds Jimi Hendrix’s Axe in New Movie; Long-Awaited Biopic Won’t Feature Jimi Hendrix Songs (Video)

After years of waiting, the Jimi Hendrix biopic about to hit the screen. Outkast's Andre "Andre 3000" Benjamin will be playing the iconic rock star Jimi Hendrix.

The Jimi Hendrix movie, "All Is By My Side" makes its U.S. premiere next week at South by Southwest 2014.

Andre 3000  transformed himself into legendary guitarist Jimi Hendrix for movie "All Is By My Side." In a new clip to the long-awaited Jimi Hendrix biopic "All Is By My Side" we hear Andre channeling Jimi, The teaser clip shows Hendrix flirting with Linda Keith, onetime girlfriend of Keith Richards played by Imogen Poots. The scene shows Jimi Hendrix getting ready to hit the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967. Jimi says "I don't want to get caught up in those kind of labels, though. I don't want it to be, 'Well OK, he's playing the blues,' or 'He's playing R&B or soul or whatever.'"

Rapper-turned-actor Andre 3000 hits and misses and hits again with Jimi's American/British hybrid accent. Andre says "listened to hours of interviews. I watched films -- watched his mannerisms" to get to the inner Hendrix.

More than forty years after his death, Jimi Hendrix remains an instantly recognizable rock guitar god icon. Sadly, there won't be any Hendrix tunes in "All Is By My Side" because his family didn't sign off on it. No "All Along The Watchtower." No "Purple Haze." The version of Wild Thing will be by the Troggs. The movie will have tunes by Muddy Waters, the Beatles and other bands.

The Jimi Hendrix biopic was written and directed by "12 Years a Slave" screenwriter John Ridley. It premiered at the Toronto Film Festival. There have been no details on when it will go wide in the U.S. IT is being distributed by Open Road.

Ridley said he started working on the film about seven years ago when he found the rare Hendrix instrumental "Sending My Love to Linda" and figured he should get to know this Linda. Ridley's film turns Linda into Keith Richards' old girlfriend Linda Keith, who was close with Hendrix and advised him to work on original material.

The movie screens on March 12 at Austin's Paramount.
