According to TV guide, the pilot for the new series helmed by JJ Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron is described as, "the series premiere of a drama about a young girl (Johnny Sequoyah) with supernatural gifts and the wrongly imprisoned inmate (Jake McLaughlin) assigned to protect her."

TV Guide also describes "Believe" as a TV show which "follows a young girl with special powers and the ex-convict sent to protect her as they run from a secret cabal trying to capture her and poke her with probes."

JJ Abrams revealed at the winter Television Critics Association press tour session for "Believe" how he teamed up with Cuaron, who snagged an Oscar nomination for "Gravity."

"Over 20 years ago, I met Alfonso Cuaron and I wanted to work with him desperately ever since. I was a huge fan of the movies he made," Abrams said. "It wasn't until Alfonso -- through some magical moment who called saying, 'I have an idea for a TV show' -- and when he pitched the idea, I felt like I had to see that on television. It was an opportunity that was too great, too exciting to pass up."
