Iron Man 4 Star Robert Downey Jr. Wants ‘Braveheart’ Actor Mel Gibson In Avengers Age Of Ultron – ‘He Wants To Bring Mel Into The Marvel Universe’

Iron Man 4 star Robert Downey Jr. is probably one of the biggest stars in Hollywood today, but that was not the case during the '90s. Downey struggled with substance abuse that led to a series of arrests, which were all well documented.

He was listed in Hollywood's blacklist, the studios kept their distance from him, despite his talent. On 2001 the Iron Man actor entered the rehab and when he's just about ready to go back into the limelight, no one would take their chance on him, due to the costly insurance bond.

And who was there to help him back on his feet? His dear friend Mel Gibson. The "Braveheart" actor helped Downey land a role in 2003's "The Singing Detective."

"Mel put up the money for my insurance bond," Downey admitted to Fox News in 2003.

Today, Iron Man 4 star Robert Downey Jr. is trying to return the favor to help his good friend Mel Gibson to get back on track.

According to RadarOnline, Downey is trying to push Marvel into giving his former Air America co-star a role in the upcoming Avengers movie, which would help Gibson revive his fallen Hollywood career.

Downey is expected to reprise his role as Tony Stark in two more Avengers films for Marvel for the next four years, and with his undeniably great contribution to the success of Marvel Cinematic Universe, Downey is certainly in the position of power.

Aside from "The Beaver" actor, Downey reportedly wanted to help another friend to reclaim success in the Hollywood as well. Oscar-winner Jodie Foster is reportedly one of the actors whom Downey wanted to help and get a role from the upcoming Avengers Age of Ultron movie.

"He wants to bring Mel and Jodie into the Marvel universe, preferably in one of the Avengers films," an insider revealed. "It's been a longtime dream of Robert's to help Mel and Jodie reach similar big box office heights like the ones he's achieved in recent years."

This is certainly not the first time for the Iron Man 4 star Robert Downey Jr. attempting to help his disgraced friend Mel Gibson to reclaim his silver screen stardom.

On 2011, when Downey was honored by the American Cinematheque Awards, he asked the audience from the industry and the celebrities to forgive Gibson for his "sins."

"Unless you are without sin, and if you are you are in the wrong (expletive) industry, you should forgive him and let him work," Downey said during his speech at the awards ceremony.

RadarOnline, previously reported that Iron Man 4 star Robert Downey Jr. already attempted to help Gibson land a role in Iron Man 3, unfortunately the idea was dismissed by the studio. But, that didn't stop Downey from trying to get his friend in the Marvel franchise.

"Robert is very big into working with his friends," a source of RadarOnline said. "Ashley Hamilton and Iron Man 3 director Shane Black both credit him with making the final push to get them hired."

Well, everything remains to be seen for now, who knows maybe Hollywood's former golden boy could reclaim his title once again from the help of the most unlikely superhero - Iron Man 4 star Robert Downey Jr.
