Mission Impossible 5 Star Tom Cruise Plays The Unlikely Hero In ‘Edge Of Tomorrow’ Movie; ‘A Total Coward & Amazing Squealer,’ Says Director Doug Liman

"Mission Impossible 5" star Tom Cruise is set to star in yet another futuristic themed action film directed by Doug Liman and this time he'll be playing an unlikely hero. A "coward hero" that is.

Director Doug Liman has release a 20-minute footage from the "Edge Of Tomorrow" film exclusive for the bloggers and movie journalists in London.

"If you love Tom Cruise, you see him giving a genius performance, and if you hate Tom Cruise he dies like 200 times in the movie," Liman revealed in a post-footage Q&A.

"Here, he is a total coward," he adds. "The amount of times he squeals in this movie - he's an amazing squealer! Other movie stars - in my experience - would have been more hesitant about being that vulnerable."

However, the famed director is troubled with the time-travel film's concept saying:

"The frustrating thing is trying to deal with the logic of a film that works with time travel," admitted Liman. "People who dream that one day time travel will exist - all they have to do is work on a film that has time travel and they will realise that there is no way ever that we will travel through time. There's just too many paradoxes. It's just not going to happen."

Mission Impossible 5 star Tom Cruise is joined by the Golden Globe award-winning actress Emily Blunt in a mind-blowing film that is set to hit theaters on July 6, 2014.

Blunt recalls how her co-star Tom Cruise encourages her to do the film saying:

"Tom made it very clear," Blunt said. "He was like, [intense Tom Cruise voice] 'Em, this is going to be really hard. Listen: This is gonna be INSANE.' [Laughs] So I think I was prepped for what was about to be physically the most grueling thing I've ever done - but ultimately one of the most exciting projects I've ever been a part of."

Edge of Tomorrow is based on Hiroshi Sakurazaka's Japanese novel "All You Need Is Kill," where the film is set in a not-so-distant future where the people are fighting over the control of Earth over an alien race.

Both "Mission Impossible 5" star Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt spent most of the scenes wearing a futuristic armor that is said to be weighing over 70 pounds that requires five crews to take it on and off.

"Even though the suits were challenging, it was something that we just had to embrace," Blunt explains. "Can you imagine trying to walk like you're in one of those suits and they paint it in [with CGI] afterward? You'd look stupid. I find anything that can transport you to the world very helpful as an actor."

Here is the synopsis of the film:

"The epic action of "Edge of Tomorrow" unfolds in a near future in which an alien race has hit the Earth in an unrelenting assault, unbeatable by any military unit in the world. Lt. Col. Bill Cage (Cruise) is an officer who has never seen a day of combat when he is unceremoniously dropped into what amounts to a suicide mission. Killed within minutes, Cage now finds himself inexplicably thrown into a time loop-forcing him to live out the same brutal combat over and over, fighting and dying again...and again. But with each battle, Cage becomes able to engage the adversaries with increasing skill, alongside Special Forces warrior Rita Vrataski (Blunt). And, as Cage and Rita take the fight to the aliens, each repeated encounter gets them one step closer to defeating the enemy."
