‘Thor 3’ Plot Spoilers: Love Triangle In Asgard? Lady Warrior Sif Fights For Her Feelings For Thunder God! Balder The Brave In Spotlight!

"Thor: The Dark World" has teased a lot of happenings in Asgard. The cliffhanger ending ensured a more tumultuous time in the realm of the Thunder god but there is also some trouble brewing on the romantic side of things.

Thor has brought Jane Foster to Asgard. While it's not your typical "presenting the girl I want to marry scenario" since there was a universe to save, the bonds have been solidified and we have Sif's death glare to chew on. This is an angle that is predicted to be explored more deeply in "Thor 3." From IGN:

'Thor is a character torn between two worlds - his homeland of Asgard and his new home among the mortals of Midgard. This conflict tends to play out across all aspects of his long life, including his romantic entanglements. Thor the god is attracted to the mighty warrior Lady Sif, a woman whom Thor is frequently portrayed as being married to in traditional Norse mythology. But Thor, even without the Dr. Donald Blake persona from the comics, has strong feelings for Jane Foster as well."

Movie fans have clamored for this since the first movie, and when "The Avengers" totally bypassed this angle (both women were not in the film) it cannot be sidetracked in the Thor series anymore. IGN airs the fans' demands:  "For one thing, the romance between Thor and Jane hasn't been developed well enough in these movies yet. Thor spent a handful of days with her in New Mexico in the first movie, and that was apparently enough to keep him pining for her for the next two years of bloody wars. For another, we haven't seen enough of Sif. Jaimie Alexander really came into her own with the role in The Dark World, but we wish she could have featured more prominently in the battle with the Dark Elves."

This is an exciting storyline and it would endear the characters to its viewers. Speaking of characters, there is one character that should also be thrust in the spotlight. At most, he was just one of Thor's sidekicks, but he actually has a birthright to be something more. From IGN:

"As the Asgardian god of light, Balder (the Brave) is a gifted warrior and a frequent companion of Thor, Sif, and the Warriors Three in the comics. Balder has also been revealed to be a son of Odin, making him half-brother to Thor and next in line to ascend the throne. With Loki's impersonation antics likely playing a part in the sequel, we could easily see the script working in Balder as another wrinkle. When Loki's ruse is discovered, and if Odin is no longer fit/alive to reclaim his title, the weight of duty may fall upon Balder."

A storyline wherein Thor is too busy with Midgard (Earth) affairs but he has to take the throne away from Loki will have Balder reiterating his birthright. But Balder has further significance than that. From the Marvel Universe:  "..prophecies that Balder's death would help trigger the coming of Ragnarok, the destruction of Asgard and its inhabitants." Balder is then a prerequisite if they want to use the Ragnarok storyline. It would also be an interesting casting call.
