Mick Jagger Girlfriend Dead: Fashion Designer L'Wren Scott Found Hanged In New York City In Apparent Suicide; Was Stylist to the Stars
Mick Jagger Girlfriend Dead: L'Wren Scott, celebrated fashion designer and girlfriend to Mick Jagger, was found hanged to death in an apparent suicide in her Manhattan apartment Monday.
Police sources said Scott's body was discovered hanging from a scarf tied to a doorknob in her apartment on 11th Avenue.
Mick Jagger is "completely shocked and devastated by the news," according to a spokesperson. When Mick Jagger's spokesman asked if L'Wren and Jagger were still in a relationship at the time of her death, he replied "of course."
L'Wren Scott was a darling designer for such stars as Oprah Winfrey, Nicole Kidman and Michelle Obama. L'Wren Scott helped design Angelina Jolie's wedding dress. Scott dressed Amy Adams, Christina Hendricks and Penelope Cruz for the red carpet.
A spokeswoman for New York City Police Department said: "A 49-year-old female was found this morning at 10.05am at 200 11th Avenue. She was unconscious. She was pronounced dead on arrival by the emergency medical services. The investigation is ongoing. We are awaiting medical examiners to determine the cause of death."
In a statement police said L'Wren's body was found by assistant after she received a text from Scott asking her to come over. The assistant found L'Wren Scott around 10 a.m.
There was no suicide note found. There was no immediate suspicion of foul play. The Medical Examiner has not yet released the formal report.
L'Wren's official Twitter account was updated at 11 a.m., an hour after her body was reportedly found.
L'Wren has been going with Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger since 2001. They couple met in 2001 on a photo shoot. L'Wren was the stylist on call. L'Wren is 23 years younger than Mick and seven inches taller.
In 2011, she told The Telegraph "I had to learn to sew when I was growing up, because nothing else fitted me."
She and Mick have been dating for more than a decade. They were last seen together publicly in November when L'Wren launched a fashion line in L.A. Mick is currently on tour with the Rolling Stones. He is scheduled to do a show in Australia on the 19th.
Scott first broke into the fashion industry as a stylist she became a hit with celebrities with her own line in 2006. L'Wren Scott was adopted and raised in Roy, Utah by Mormon parents. Her name was Luann Bambrough. At 17 she changed it to L'Wren when she launched her modelling. She graduated high school in 1985. She credited her work ethic to her traditional upbringing. L'Wren's father worked in insurance. Her mother worked at a local bank. L'Wren moved to Paris to pursue modeling career.
She moved to California in in the 1990s and became a stylist for photographer Herb Ritts and Karl Lagerfeld. She style such celebrities including Madonna, Julia Roberts and Tom Hanks.
