X-Men Days Of Future Past Star Hugh Jackman Co-Star Rooney Mara In Pan Movie Under Fire For The Tiger Lily Role; ‘Please, No More Redface’

X-Men Days Of Future Past star Hugh Jackman has confirmed the news linking him to Joe Wright's Peter Pan origin story "Pan" movie.

"I love the director Joe Wright, I love working with Warner Bros and I think this is just really exciting. It's a very cool project. And it's wonderful for my kids!," Jackman told Huffington Post.

In addition, Jackman will star alongside "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" actress Rooney Mara, who bagged the role of the Native American "Tiger Lily," the two actors will also be joined by "Tron Legacy" star Garett Hedlund who will be playing the role of Captain Hook.

However, Rooney Mara and the production team are now currently under fire because of the controversial "Tiger Lily" role.

The 1953 Disney animated classic Pete Pan has depicted Tiger Lily as a Native American princess who was then captured by the uncanny Captain Hook and Smee in order to find Pan's secret hide out in Neverland.

According to IMDb, Mara was born in New York to parents of European descent -- her mother is Irish and Italian, and her father, New York Giants executive Timothy Christopher Mara, has Irish, German, and French-Canadian ancestry.

"Rooney Mara is an incredibly gifted, insightful artist. But come on. You couldn't find a Native American actress to play Tiger Lily?!?!" Tweeted by a fan of Peter Pan movie.

"There is NO bigger Joe Wright fan than me. Honestly. But casting Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily is a huge mistake. Please, no more redface," added by another Twitter user.

In other news, Jackman is currently holding the record of playing a "single live-action superhero character" in several films. The 45-year old Aussie has maintained his individuality and avoid being typecast despite playing the role of Wolverine for seven different movies in X-Men franchise including the "Wolverine" spinoff, according to Cinemablend.

Last year, he was spectacular in portraying Jean Valjean in Tom Hooper's "Les Miserables." He managed to wow the critics in his performance in "Prisoners."

The role of Blackbeard was reportedly first offered to "Skyfall" and "No Country for Old Men" villain Javier Bardem. Warner Bros. first approached the Spanish actor according to the reports made by Deadline. Nevertheless, Bardem allegedly turned down the offer, thus making Warner Bros. offer the said villainous role to X-Men Days Of Future Past star Hugh Jackman.

Warner Bros. has recently bumped Batman vs. Superman release date for 2016 and replacing it with 'Pan' on July 17, 2015

"Pan" is described by Variety as a Peter Pan origin story, where it would focus on the beginnings of the young orphan named Peter Pan. The script penned by Jason Fuschs will feature how Pan was brought to Neverland and how he started a revolution against the evil pirates, headed by Blackbeard. The movie will also tackle on Thinker Bell and Captain Hook's beginnings.

For those of you who are wondering about Captain Hook's role on the film, Variety reports that Hook will "serve as Pan's close ally before turning bad."

Warner is now aiming for its share of the early May box office. The studio is also pushing production on the movie to the second quarter; it was initially slated to begin shooting this winter.

"We are happy to take advantage of these coveted summer dates, which are perfect for two of our biggest tentpole releases," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution said in a statement. "We share the fans' excitement to see DC Comics' most popular figures, Superman and Batman, together on the big screen for the first time, which will now be arriving in theatres in May 2016.  Peter Pan has delighted people of every generation for more than a century, so we are thrilled to bring him back to the screen next summer for today's moviegoers."

Although, this would be the first major casting news for "Pan," this is most certainly not the last. Warner Bros. is about to schedule an open casting call for the lead role, while his supposed love interest Tiger Lily has already been cast.
