'The Hobbit: There And Back Again' Hopes To Buck Oscars Snub Of First Two Films? Peter Jackson's Trilogy Couldn't Hold Candle to 17 Academy Awards for 'LOTR'

Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" is the remaining hope to reverse the trend of the first two films in the trilogy which didn't win a single Academy Award despite being nominated for a total of six Oscars. In contrast, the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy grabbed 17 of the 30 categories in which it is nominated in.

Zachary Stieber of Epoch Times wrote that the "The Hobbit There and Back Again" will have to win an Oscar "or the trilogy will go without one."

He said "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" was nominated for three Oscars while the second part, "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" was again nominated for another three Oscars for Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Visual Effects but lost to the Sandra Bullock-starrer "Gravity" instead.

The "Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King" holds the distinction for winning the most Academy Awards with 11 golden trophies. The film joins other films like "Titanic" and "Ben Hur," Epoch Times added.

"It's also the only fantasy film that won the Oscar for Best Picture," Zachary Stieber added.

New Zealander Matt Aiken, Weta Digital visual effects supervisor, in February promised that the visual effects of "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" would be a treat for Tolkien fans.

In an interview with Flickering Myth, Aiken said Tolkien fans should be on the lookout for the battle scenes of "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" because "it'll be spectacular."

"Film one was the set-up, getting to know the characters and everyone up and on the way. Film two was the consolidation of all of that and getting to know what drives Thorin for the quest of his homeland and what drives Bilbo. Film three is going to be the payoff for all of that," he said.

Matt Aiken was referring to the "Battle of the Five Armies," where men, dwarves, orcs, elves and eagles collide, which Richard Armitage (who plays king of the dwarves, Thorin Oakenshield) was very anxious about.
