Spring break 2014 deals, destinations: More than 20,000 students will dare to travel and party in the next few weeks as Spring Break 2014 commences. The ChicagoMag has compiled some very interesting deals you can avail of from now to mid-April.

CAPTIVA ISLAND, FL.

This island is best for small families with everyone in the crew from tiny tots to teens. ChicagoMag notes that its affordable and easy to get to the island. You can fly direct to Fort Myers from $256 roundtrip on Spirit airlines. The 465-room South Seas Island Resort starts at $329 a night. The setting feels like you’re straight out of the tropics.

Some of the things you can do in the area is beach combing, sailing, kayaking in mangrove forests, swimming in three pools with slides, fishing off docks frequented by manatees, biking, golfing, and cruising into the sunset.

PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS

This is a sprawling Bahamian beachside resort and offers a 140-acre water park, open-air and marine sanctuary and excellent amenities for both kids and adult on the ground. It’s now receiving its best weather - clear of hurricane season with high in the 80s. ChicagoMag said that the elaborate resort is now getting an influx of Chicagoans thanks to a recent increase in nonstop service via United Airlines.

Prospective vacationers can stay at the family-friendly Reef hotel for $799 a night or the adults-only Cove, from $1,009 a night. You’ll get a water park with its epic slides and huge river ride. You can also snorkel in a protected lagoon and join tours of the underground, 2.3 million-gallon Dig marine exhibit. The place also has access to quiet, private beaches, available only to guests at the two hotels.

MIAMI, FL

There are places in this favorite summer spot that’s beyond just a site to crash after a wild beach party. You can stay at the 62-room Freehand Miami, an upscale, sleepaway-camp-cool hostel designed by Roman Williams.

Two blocks from Freehand to the beach, you can learn to surf and kite board or partake in Saturday detox yoga. You can also just stick around to the pool and enjoy the stuff you never expected from a hostel. The Freehand has a stylish outdoor pool, ping pong, bike rentals, and painting classes complete with cocktails poured by the Broken Shaker, which is a local hotspot right on the premises.
