‘The Incredibles 2,’ ‘Cars 3’ In Development For Disney-Pixar! Much-Awaited Sequel To Super-Powered Family Finally Moving Forward!

There was good news and seemingly bad news from the Disney/Pixar front. Two Pixar sequels have been announced to be 'in development.'

One of them is 'The Incredibles 2' the saga of a super powered family forced into retirement. They had to return to action following a new threat from an obsessed fan turned super-villain.

There were many teasers for a sequel in that movie. One of them is that the youngest member of the family, the toddler, Jack Jack actually had strange (but awesome) powers of his own.

Variety reported: "The executive (Bob Iger, Disney CEO) made the announcement during the company's shareholders meeting in Portland, Ore., providing few other details."

Most of the viewers expected Pixar to build on the ending and make a sequel. As Screenrant reports: "..pretty much every single time I've written about an upcoming Pixar movie (no matter what it is), someone inevitably leaves a comment expressing their desire to see the adventures of the middle-aged Mr. Incredible."

Variety reports director Brad Bird's involvement:  "The Incredibles"-director Brad Bird is writing the sequel for the superhero pic, Iger said. Bird is currently helming Disney's live action "Tomorrowland," starring George Clooney, in theaters May 22, 2015."

It is highly believed that Brad Bird will eventually be tapped to helm the project.

"Cars 3" on the other hand, did not generate as much buzz but the Pixar faithful are anticipating a revival. Most critics would call this an easy money grab for the company. Still from Variety:

"Cars 2," Pixar's 12th film, earned nearly $560 million worldwide in 2011; $191 million in the U.S. While somewhat of a critical disappointment, the film, directed by John Lasseter, still minted millions for Disney from consumer products like toys, apparel and other merchandise, a series of "Cars Toons" shorts, and helped spin off the company's newest franchise."

The Pixar movie line-up now looks like this: "Inside Out" in 2015, "The Good Dinosaur" in November 2015 and "Finding Dory" the sequel to "Finding Nemo" in 2016. There are no Pixar movies in 2014. Following the model of alternating a sequel and an original film, there should be a new film released before any of these two sequels.
