‘Iron Man 4’ Plot Spoilers: ‘Hulkbuster’ Armor Teased In 'Avengers 2!' Designed To Fight The Hulk, Will Tony Stark Relinquish Control Over His Powerful Armor And Retire?

The concept of Tony Stark having multiple armors was already shown even in the first movie. But we saw most the arsenal in "Iron Man 3" including the fabled Hulkbuster armor.

Marvel recently released concept art during 'Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe,' a one-hour special about Marvel Studios, which ended with a never-before-seen sneak peek of the upcoming superhero sequel. Part of that sneak peek was concept art, which gives us a clue of how the movie will appear.

The exciting implication of the Hulkbuster costume is a battle between Iron Man and the Hulk! Screencrush writes: "While most thought the destruction and effects work being filmed were in preparation for a major action scene for Hulk ... they were half right! The ABC Marvel special revealed concept art for - wait for it - a major battle between Tony Stark's Hulkbuster Iron Man suit and Hulk himself!"

Tony Stark has always been in awe of the Hulk. In the current comic book story arc, Stark is actually depicted as insecure of the superpowers possessed by other super heroes. In one story, he actually exiled the Hulk. Because of this, he created the Hulkbuster in the occasion he had to go toe-to-toe with the green giant. From ironmanarmory.com:

"Built in case he ever had to tangle with the green goliath again, Stark was glad he was prepared when the anger that is the Hulk. The Hulkbuster Armor is the ultimate module, an exo-suit that allows Iron Man to go a few rounds with the Hulk by wrapping around the Modular Armor itself. Although used just once, this module past the test, allowing Iron Man to trade blows with the Hulk, fighting to a standstill.

The biggest Stark armor built to date, this is suit is not an actual model, but an auxiliary module for the Modular Armor, Model XII, Mark I. An exo-armor, built of impact-resistant carbon composites with a magno-hydraulic pseudomusclature rated at 175 tons, this suit fits on top of the Modular Armor--it is an extension that Iron Man, in full armor, climbs into and plugs in."

The big question is, why are Stark and the Hulk fighting? The idea is that Ultron had managed to take control of Iron Man's armory, and used the Hulkbuster to fulfill it's purpose: battle the Hulk.

An 'Iron Man 4' movie has yet to be confirmed, and actually been set aside. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige told French website Lavoixdunord.fr: "Well, if I believe Tony Stark to be James Bond, then there would be and Iron Man 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9... What is James Bond on at ? Twenty ?"

But what about Robert Downey, Jr? "That's the question. And again, that's a question we won't have to face until after Avengers 3. So that's at least five or six years away."

The idea that the Avengers would feel betrayed (on why Stark has an armor built to fight them) and the teaser that Ultron was his creation may lead to Tony feeling guilty. Will we see him hang up the armor? Will he appoint a successor to don a scaled down armor? Five years is a long time!
