‘Devious Maids’ Mere Shadow Of ‘Desperate Housewives? Season 1 Of Marc Cherry's Lifetime Show Now On DVD!

"Devious Maids" is just a mere shadow of "Desperate Housewives" because it's not as hard-hitting and all that exciting claims a commentary. Fans of the show, however, can re-watch season 1 of Marc Cherry's Lifetime show as it is now on DVD.

Kenneth Chaw wrote on The Star that at first glance, both "Devious Maids" and "Desperate Housewives" have lots of similarities because they began with a mysterious death, beautiful cast and a lot of skeletons in the closet.

"'Devious Maids,' unfortunately, is a poor man's version of 'Desperate Housewives' ... at best. First up, the series has little depth," he wrote.

While "Desperate Housewives" exploits the sexual angle by showing as much as it can half-naked men and women, the series however was not afraid to tackle the big issues such as abortion, divorce and cancer.

"To be fair, Devious Maids does shed light on life as an immigrant and life as a single mother plus the disparity between the upper and lower class but there are only so many times you can play those cards," Kenneth Chaw added.

As a result, "Devious Maids" focuses too much on "affairs, unrequited love and, err, some strange fetishes."

The full season DVD of "Devious Maids" can be purchased for $40, according to newsday.com. The DVD also contains never-before-seen, behind-the-scenes footage of the Atlanta location shoot.

"Devious Maids" season 2 will premier on Sunday, April 20 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, according to Lifetime network. The series is executive produced by Marc Cherry and Eva Langoria of "Desperate Housewives," who will also direct the season 2 premiere.

"Devious Maids" stars Dania Ramirez, Ana Ortiz, Edy Ganem, Roselyn Sánchez and Judy Reyes who all play five maids who want to fulfill their own dreams while working for the rich and famous in Beverly Hill, the website of the network said.
