'X-Men Apocalypse' Cast Rumors: Channing Tatum As Gambit To Debut In 'X-Men Days Of Future Past' Sequel? Nightcrawler Also Set To Return!

"X-Men: Apocalypse" is already being discussed, even though "Days of Future Past" hasn't been shown yet. The X-Men producer has aired her preferences, and director Bryan Singer would probably oblige.

In an interview with X-Men produce Lauren Schuler Donner, she confirms that Tatum's interest in the role may lead to something. From Empire:

"I'm dying to do a Gambit movie with Channing Tatum. That doesn't have to be a great big movie. It's a thief in New Orleans, it's a whole different story. He's on board, and I have to get the studio on board. How can anyone resist Channing? He's such a sweetheart."

Director Bryan Singer is not about to disappoint his producer, right? After the generous appropriations for his vision of "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" he should be able to squeeze in one character.

But it's not just the producer. Gambit is already a big fan favorite even in the comics. The brief appearance in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" was one of the reasons why fans were disappointed with the film (but there are a lot of reasons).

Director Bryan Singer talked to Cine Premiere (from Mexico) and translated back to English by Comic Book Movie: "I'm considering Gambit and potentially a young Nightcrawler for 'Apocalypse. (the quotes have, however, been translated back into English from Spanish) "I was going to have to Nightcrawler [in 'Days of Future Past'] and even wrote a scene, but I felt that we were forcing too mutants into the story."

It was surprising that Singer actually thought that "Days of Future Past" had too many mutants. He even had a late addition in Toad.

There were rumors being teased of a solo Gambit movie right after the first Wolverine stand-alone film, but because it bombed, they had to take a step back. The X-Men franchise in general underwent a semi-reboot in "X-Men First Class" pushing the Gambit movie further away from fruition.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" may be the right time to introduce him, though. The release date is scheduled on May 27, 2016.
