‘Fantastic Four Reboot’ Sequel Release Date: Fox Takes Huge Risk With Sequel! Is 'F4 And X-Men Crossover' The Mystery Movie ?

The "Fantastic Four" Reboot is going on all cylinders now. Despite the controversy with its casting choices and various rumors, Fox has already given a release date to its sequel!

The Hollywood Reporter was the first to post the announcement. Fox looks very aggressive to take its share of the superhero movie pie stretching its release dates all the way to 2018 like Sony and Marvel. From THR:

"The studio announced The Fantastic Four 2 will open July 14, 2017, while an untitled Wolverine film will open March 3, 2017. Fox has also slated an untitled Marvel film for July 13, 2018.

Fox owns the rights to the X-Men and Fantastic Four franchises, so the mystery 2018 Marvel film could draw from either of those. It's not unthinkable that the project might even be a crossover between the two."

It is fortunate that Fox has secured the rights to superhero groups, especially the X-Men Universe that has vast potential. The Fantastic Four and the X-men have a great deal of crossovers in the comics, specifically dealing with Franklin Richards, the son of Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic) and Sue Storm (Invisible Woman). Franklin turned out to be one of the most powerful psychic mutants in the world, and of course, Professor X has tracked him.

It is difficult to determine if the reboot will traverse this path. The rumors that the Fantastic Four reboot will follow the path of The Ultimates will totally eliminate this concept, but anything is possible.

Cinema Blend has also analyzed the situation: "Fantastic Four 2 is a bit more of a mystery. Fox is only now really getting close to the start of production on the reboot - which will start filming next month - so it's a surprise to see that they are already planning for a big future. Presumably stars Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Bell have all signed multi-picture deals that will keep them."

A crossover between Fantastic Four and X-Men sounds logical for 2018 because the last X-Men movie would be "Apocalypse" in 2016. But 'FF2' is in 2017. There is the possibility that they can shoot the sequel and crossover film back to back. That movie could be a worthy adversary to The Avengers 3, which would probably release in 2018 as well.
