The synopsis for the "How I Met Your Mother" season 9 finale episode reads: "The series concludes with Ted Mosby finally finishing telling his children Penny and Luke the story of how he met their mother... Penny and Luke Mosby hear the ending to their father Ted's story of how he met their mother."

Neil Patrick Harris, who plays Barney on "HIMYM," revealed he cried during the series finale.

Harris told Us Weekly: "We never talked about the end. Josh Radnor has never been funnier and Cristin Milioti made me cry."

Cobie Smulders, who plays Robin, also admitted that it was an emotional journey to film the last episode of "How I Met Your Mother," The Star reports.

"Some days I'm totally fine, but then I realize it's going to be the last time and I get really nostalgic and sad," says Smulders. "But I have so much overwhelming gratitude to the show, it's been the best job. It's hard to get mad or sad when you've been given such opportunity."

Actress Alyson Hannigan, who plays Lily, said that Robin's endgame surprised her the most, Latino Post reports.

"Although I guess that's not really a surprise, because it's sort of been addressed in the past. You'll see," she said.
