‘Happy’ Pharrell Williams ‘The Voice’ Season 7: ‘Blurred Lines' Singer Will Join NBC Show As Coach; Will He Collaborate On One Direction New Album 2014?

Pharrell Williams will join "The Voice" season 7! NBC officially announced that the "Happy" singer will join the show as a coach. Will Pharrell Williams collaborate on the new One Direction album this year as well?

NBC tweeted confirmation on Monday that Pharrell Williams will be joining "The Voice" as a coach for season 7 of the reality singing competition, CNN reports.

"Okay, we can OFFICIALLY say it! WE ARE SO #HAPPY to announce PHARRELL WILLIAMS = #NewVoiceCoach for SEASON 7," NBC posted on Twitter.

On Monday, Williams retweeted the NBC tweet adding: "This is going to be so fun."

"It's been a huge year for Pharrell, with recognition for his contribution in the world of music -- the Despicable Me franchise soundtracks, his Oscar-nominated song 'Happy' and his Grammy-winning collaboration with Daft Punk on the breakout dance hit 'Get Lucky.' His dominance in record sales in 2014, coupled with his incomparable accomplishments in the world of fashion and design, make him an irresistible addition to The Voice family," said Paul Telegdy of NBC Entertainment.

"He has already made a considerable impact as a mentor, drawing on an impressive track record as both a producer and performer. It is a perfect fit for 'The Voice' as we evolve and reach for new heights with this franchise. It feels like we are welcoming an existing family member home."

Does this mean previous rumors of Pharrell collaborating with One Direction on their new album for 2014 are off the table? We hope not!

One Direction talked to Capital FM at the BRIT Awards 2014, where they revealed that they are hoping Pharrell can write a song for their new album.

"He is a friend of mine, that is as well as I can put it," Liam said.

Niall  Horan explained: "We've been writing the new album at the minute, and hopefully we can get Pharrell, if Liam is willing."

"And I will do that trip with you, to go to America to meet Mr. Pharrell Williams, we'll go and write a tune!" he added.
