'Big' Makes a Big Splash

KBS newest drama to play on the Monday and Wednesday schedule, ‘Big,’ had a press conference to announce the production of the drama.

Among others, Gong Yoo, Lee Min Jung, Bae Suzy, all appeared at the Lotte Grand Blue Room for the unveiling at 2pm on May 29. All expressed excitement by the anticipation of viewers for ‘Big.’

‘Big,’ written by two sisters, Hong Jung Eun and Hong Mi Ran, who also wrote ‘The Greatest Love,’ is the first romantic comedy produced by the duo. The drama unfolds the story of an adolescent girl, whose soul is transplanted into the body of a 30 year old fiancé of a school teacher, in this exciting and gritty drama.

The highly publicized trailer elicited laughter from the comic performance of Gong Yoo and Lee Min Jung. Hong, the scriptwriter of ‘You're Beautiful’ and ‘The Greatest Love,’ shows an evolved storyline of romantic comedy in this drama.

Gong Yoo balances well the relationship between the successful 30 year-old doctor and the immature 18 year-old adolescent. Lee Min Jung's stellar performance also attracted attention. Bae Suzy climbed the ranks in the echelon of actors through her performance in ‘Introduction to Architecture,’ and she does it again here by playing the role of the stubborn high school student.

This is the first collaboration between Hong and Ji Byung Hun PD within 7 years ever since they worked on the drama, ‘Delightful Girl Choon Hyang.’ Ji Byung Hun states, "We had always planned to work together again after 'Delightful Girl Choon Hyang.' The writers insisted that it'll get even more difficult if we don't do it now, so we finally did."

Ji Byung Hun PD says about the Hong sisters, "It's already well known that the work is funny and fun. The Hong sisters' strength is the warm portrayal of the human drama. The drama will be heart-warming."

He also expressed satisfaction with the actors saying, "Without Gong Yoo I thought this drama would be difficult to make. Lee Min Jung has surpassed all expectations."

Gong Yoo, who plays the characters Seo Yoon Jae and Kang Gyung Joon said, "It's inevitable that playing a character is difficult, but I really wanted to do it well."

He said of his colleagues, Lee Min Jung, and Bae Suzy, that all their acting is superb and that he feels lucky to have landed such a role.
