Miss America Nina Davuluri Won’t Be Going to Patrick Farve’s Prom, But Says Don’t Punish Him For Asking; Miss America Prom Date Goes Viral

Miss America Nina Davuluri gets all kinds of invitations now that she's wearing the crown. She has to appear all over the world bringing goodwill. When Miss America Nina Davuluri appeared at a high school in Pennsylvania, it was too much for the school's class clown. This kid knows his timing. Miss America Nina Davuluri says he shouldn't be punished for that.

During the Q&A session with Miss America Nina Davuluri, Patrick Farves, 18, broke out the flowers and asked her to the prom. Ah the nerve to approach a pageant princess. Nina Davuluri was talking to students at Central York High School about the importance of diversity and math and science studies.

Davuluri asked if there were any questions and Farve pulled out a purple plastic flower and said, "Miss America, I have a question. Will you go to prom with me?"

Miss America Nina Davuluri ultimately rejected Patrick Farve. Then the school did. His high school suspended him for even asking her. Like it was their place to tell him she was out of his league. Davuluri won the 2014 Miss America crown this past September.

The school knew it was coming. Patrick was known as a class clown. He previewed the joke and it got aroud the school and a school administrator told Patrick not to go ahead 10 minutes before the assembly. But Farves told the media "This is kind of what I do. I'm kind of known for this stuff, just like, pranks, standing out, jokes with my friends. I'm a real goofy and standout character. I had looked at it like, this was a now-or-never type thing. This was a once-in-a-lifetime chance," the student said. "I did it anyway, and I knew I would get in some type of trouble. I can totally understand and respect the disciplinary actions that had to be taken."

So the school gave Patrick Farve 3 days of suspension saying "It is not our practice to discipline a student for asking someone - even Miss America - to a school dance. However, it is our practice to set expectations for student behavior, to communicate those expectations and to ensure those rules are followed within our schools."

Nina defended the senior saying in a statement "Yesterday, a student invited me to prom and gave me a flower while I was giving a presentation in York, Pennsylvania. I was flattered by the gesture. Although I am unfortunately unable to attend due to my schedule, I learned of the disciplinary action taken and reached out to the school in hopes that they will reconside. Meeting and interacting with students across the country has been an important and rewarding part of my year as Miss America. I always encourage students to follow their dreams through education, and I'm inspired daily by the enthusiasm and aspirations of the bright young adults I have the pleasure of meeting."
