Steven Spielberg 'Robopocalypse' Cast Chris Hemsworth And Anne Hathaway She' Cast Chris Hemsworth And Anne Hathaway Shelved? Dreamworks Not Dismissing Futuristic Epic But Is ‘Suspended’ Due To Budget!

Steven Spielberg has a dream project, "Robopocalypse" which has been described as a smarter "I Robot" and a more action-filled "War of the Worlds." However, the project seems to be stalled.

The actual status is 'suspended indefinitely.' While that sounds like a death sentence, remember that 'indefinitely' can range from 10 days to 10 years.

It is presumed that budgetary constraints are responsible for the delay, something that you would not imagine a director like Spielberg would have to face. But apparently, there are also creative concerns.

ScreenRant elaborates the skinny on the film: "Robopocalypse" is a cinematic adaptation of the book written by Daniel H. Wilson; a World War Z-style oral history novel, Wilson's source material details the human resistance against a robotic uprising, led by a renegade sentient A.I. being. Wilson's source novel was adapted to script form by Drew Goddard (The Cabin in the Woods), though it's possible that Goddard wasn't responsible for the latest rewrite - given that he's been busy in recent months, with prepping Marvel Studios' Netflix TV series Daredevil and working on the script for Sony's Amazing Spider-Man spinoff Sinister Six (which he will also direct)."

Dreamworks is not releasing any official word but it is possible that Goddard may have left the project and that is a further cause for delay. Meanwhile, the Hollywood heavyweight director is intent on getting busy.

From Variety: "Some people close to Spielberg insist that he has not committed to his next directing gig, though others say "Robopocalypse" is the frontrunner. Of all his current projects, sources say "Robopocalypse" is the furthest along, with one person noting that the budget is close to being finalized."

The initial rumored cast had Chris Hemsworth and Anne Hathaway in lead roles: "Chris Hemsworth is attached to star, and though he is busy shooting "Avengers: The Age of Ultron," those close to the Aussie thesp say he is still very much interested in finding a way to fit the robot pic into his schedule." There is no word from Hathaway's side.

"Robopocalypse" sounds like a great sci-fi epic that can offer a respite from the superhero movies. The latest news is that Spielberg is favorable to the spy thriller project that marks his reunion with Tom Hanks as his next immediate project.
