"Obviously sweeps are better than winning two out of three," Matt Carpenter told the team's official website after homering in a 2-for-4 day. "But at the end of the day, we won another series, and if we can continue that and win the rest of them, we'll be happy with how that works out."

Shelby Miller will be on the mound for St. Louis. Miller (7-5, 3.42 ERA) will hope to build off a quality start where he went six and two thirds of an inning, only allowing one run to the Nationals.

"I think I'm a little bit more prepared, just maturing a little bit more every single start, it seems like," Miller told the team's official website. "I'm just trying to focus the whole entire game."

Ryan Howard was among them and drove in two runs for a third straight game after going seven without an RBI, while Marlon Byrd went 3 for 5 with a home run and three RBIs, according to MLB.com.

"It's a good feeling because you put in the work," Byrd said. "It seems like you've put in the work every single day and don't get the results. The results are the key. You start feeling good about yourself. To come out here the whole series and put up runs against a good staff is huge for us, knowing that the work we've put in is starting to show up on the field."
