AMC's 'Breaking Bad' Spinoff 'Better Call Saul' Starring Bob Odenkirk Renewed For Second Season Before First Season Airs: AMC Executives Panic With End Of 'Mad Men' [PHOTO]

If you remember Saul from 'Breaking Bad,' and you also remember thinking "I really want that kind of a lawyer," you are not alone. AMC has already renewed the "Breaking Bad" spinoff "Better Call Saul" starring Bob Odenkirk for a second season, before the first season has aired, brining the total number of episodes planned to 23.

The show follows lawyer Saul, played by Bob Odenkirk on his life before the events of "Breaking Bad." Johnathan Banks will also be playing his "Breaking Bad" character Mike Ehrmantraut .

The show was originally to premiere in November, but the debut has been pushed back to early 2015. The second season will follow in early 2016. The show will be directed by Vince Gilligan, who will be sharing showrunner duties  Peter Gould. Filming has already begun on the 10-episode first season in Albuquerque, N.M.

AMC president Charlie Collier said, "Production on Better Call Saul is underway, and we could not be more proud of nor more excited about the work to date. We join the fans in eager anticipation for this series, and today we happily confirm that our initial Saul order is for two seasons and a total of 23 episodes. When introducing any series, especially one with the DNA of Breaking Bad, there are countless factors to consider in making sure the show gets the launch it deserves. We have a strong history with Vince, Peter, Bob, the studio and so many involved with this production; we are enjoying the process on Saul and all share a focus on making it a true television event. No half measures."

With "Mad Men," AMC's bread and butter, coming to a close, "The Walking Dead" is AMC's only confirmed hit. Many speculate the choice to renew this show before it even airs is a bit of a desperate scramble to find another hit.

Gilligan, Gould, Thomas Schnauz, Gennifer Hutchison, Bradley Paul, and Gordon Smith will be writing the spinoff. Gilligan, Gould, Mark Johnson and Melissa Bernstein will be the executive producers. Stewart A. Lyons and Shnauz  co-executive producers.
