‘X-Men Days Of Future Past’ Has Too Many Mutants? Apocalypse Creator Warns That The Expanded Universe Could ‘Collapse Under Its Own Weight!’

The "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is like a teaser on what Fox is planning for the mutant universe. By all indications, it's going to big, and Fox has become mighty ambitious. A word of caution from one of the greatest X-Men writers and the creator of the character Apocalypse, Louise Simonson tells them to put on the brakes.

Fox now has so many movies based on the Marvel properties they acquired on the pipeline. Deadpool, Mystique, Magneto and Gambit have possible solo films and X-Men can continue with X-Force at the side.

She cites that there was a similar situation in the comics, when the X-Men titles and their spin-offs (New Mutants, X-Factor, Excalibur, X-Force) were at their peak.

From comicbook.com:

"What was your time like on the X-Men books? It seems to me the X-titles are always weird because as often as not you've had eight or ten of them at a time."

"Well, that was not true in my day. We're talking about a looong timespan here. When I first started editing X-Men, there was just Uncanny. Then we brought in New Mutants because we had to because Shooter made us essentially [laughs].

And then I guess they brought in Excalibur after that and then after that it was like, X-Factor and Wolverine got his own title and it did kind of tend to expand. But it was a very popular universe so I can understand from a publishing perspective why you would want to expand on it...infinitely...until it collapsed under its own weight [laughs]."

She also confessed that she has not seen the entire film. She is married to Walt Simonson, also a Marvel writer who was associated with the Thor title. Both of them still have their projects even though they're almost seventy.

She admits that she has not even seen "X-men: Days Of Future Past" but that's because of the theater, not the movie.
